Fishing on Hatteras Island - Just WOW !!

If fishing is your thing then Hatteras Island is your place!  Whether you enjoy surf fishing, pier fishing or want to try your hand at off-shore fishing you have found the perfect spot!  It is all here!  This is a jackpot area for all types of fishing!  Once you fish on Hatteras Island you will be “hooked”!

Surf Fishing here is awesome!

Surf-Fishing is huge here on Hatteras Island and awesome on the beach by SEAcret Treasure!  Grab your gear and just 100 footsteps from the cottage you are at the perfect spot!

Fishing on Hatteras Island does require that you obtain a Fishing License.  The license can be obtained at any of the local OBX tackle shops or get it online at the Division of  Marine Fisheries Website.

Hatteras Island has some of the best Surf Fishing on the Atlantic and is one of the most popular spots on the East coast.  Whether you are just learning or an experienced angler the thrill of catching a record-breaking fish is possible and the fishing here is exceptional.  There is a total of 70 miles of national shore line here.  When you catch that “big one”, take it to any of the local tackle shops, with a weigh station, to find out if it is qualified for a North Carolina Fishing Citation.

There are many bait and tackle shops here.  You can get anything you need from bait to fishing gear. Basic tackle can be purchased just up the street from SEAcret Treasure, at the Island Convenience Store/Liberty Station.  If you are just starting out and want to try your luck at Surf Fishing, they carry the essentials you will need to get you started.

Pier Fishing is pure pleasure here!

Pier Fishing is extremely popular on Hatteras Island! Fishermen from all over the country have been drawn here for many, many years!  Trying their best to catch one of the huge record breaking Red Drums that frequently travel here.

There are two fishing piers on Hatteras Island.  The Rodanthe Pier and the Avon Pier.

The Rodanthe Pier

The Rodanthe Pier is a favorite with guests of SEAcret Treasure!  There is much fun to be had here!  Fishing here is awesome!  The view is spectacular and a sunrise here is a must see!  This is a great place whether you want to fish or just relax and enjoy the  view. The  Rodanthe Pier is just about a mile away from SEAcret Treasure.  A beautiful walk on the beach or a very quick car ride and you are there!

The Pier House here is a great place to hang out and grab a snack and play the arcade games.  It is well stocked with rods, reels, fishing tackle and bait. There are also snacks, sandwiches, souvenirs and T-shirts available for purchase. 

​

There are No Fishing Licenses required to fish from the Pier. There is a fee. Passes are available to purchase (Daily, Weekly, Season).  Please see their website for more information.

The Rodanthe Pier is a lovely place to enjoy the ocean breezes and take some amazing pictures of the breathtaking scenery!  Evenings strolls provide a great opportunity for star gazing!

This pier is a well loved landmark on Hatteras Island and a wonderful place to spend time!  Open daily 6AM - 12AM

The Avon Pier

The Avon Pier is the oldest standing Outer Banks pier.  A great spot for fishing and a day of fun over the ocean.  The Pier House here has everything you need for fishing!   Available for purchase is a wide variety of rods, reels, tackle, accessories and coolers.  You can also rent fishing equipment here.   Grab a cold drink or an ice cream to cool down a bit.  They sell their famous Avon Pier hats and T-shirts so you have a souvenir of your visit here.

Fishing Licenses are not required.  There is a fee.  Passes are available for purchase (Fishing Day Pass, Fishing 3-Day Pass or and Sightseeing Pass).

​

There have been many record catches at this pier making it a very popular fishing spot.

​

The Summer hours are Sunday - Wednesday 6AM-10PM.  Thursday  -Saturday 6AM-midnight.  Spring and Fall hours are 6AM-10PM.  The pier is closed in the Winter.
